MKT Depot and Caboose

The historic Missouri-Kansas-Texas (MKT) Depot, which has been restored to serve as an Information and Tourist Center, is the central location for visitors to obtain information, brochures and maps of Katy. The Depot is also a museum and displays many original elements of how it operated as a passenger rail service in Katy until 1957. The Katy Heritage Society’s red caboose is also located on the beautifully landscaped site with benches and a town clock.

Katy Mills Mall

Katy Mills Mall is a climate controlled indoor shopping mall with over 175 stores and 1.3 million square feet of retail space. It features a high-fashion line-up including H&M, Kate Spade New York, Michael Kors, Neiman Marcus Last Call, Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th, Cole Haan, Kenneth Cole and Tommy Bahama. It offers visitors a mecca of retail shopping, dining options, movie theater and tons of family entertainment.

Johnny Nelson Katy Heritage Museum

This museum features vintage farming equipment and artifacts from Katy’s agricultural and pioneering history, along with scores of old photographs and fascinating antiques.  Schools, clubs, and groups can make arrangements for special tours of the museum.

Free admission.

Katy Heritage Homes

Established in 2003 as a joint project with the City of Katy and the Katy Heritage Society, Katy Heritage Park boasts restored historic buildings, beautiful landscaping and yearly activities. Heritage Park is also host to many community events with its Tradition Bank bandstand pavilion and brick paved patio. The park is open from dawn to dusk,

Katy's Veterans Memorial Museum, or “The G.I. Joe Museum”, is a first-class military exhibit of historical significance encompassing every foreign conflict involving the United States. Special group schedules are available upon request. Free admission.

A construction-themed adventure park, allows kids and adults to safely operate real construction equipment, including excavators, skid steers and UTVs through a partnership with Mustang Cat. Enjoy a playground, gem-mining station, turf field with yard games and more plus educational materials provided by Texas A&M University's Department of Construction Science.

Ancestral Homes of Katy were researched and historical markers erected by the local Texas Sesquicentennial Committee in 1986. The historical markers can be used as a guide for a walking or driving tour of more than a dozen historical homes and buildings in downtown Katy.

Momentum Indoor Climbing

Momentum Katy boasts 36,000 square feet of space for both roped and and un-roped climbing, speed climbing, and large areas for fitness and yoga! Climbing is a personal journey of achievement, every bit as satisfying for the first-time beginner as it is for the seasoned expert. Momentum prides itself on having one of the best youth development systems in the country. 

The City of Katy Parks and Recreation Department is committed to providing quality park facilities and community events for the use and enjoyment of the residents of Katy. Parks and recreation services are beneficial to the community as it strengthens community image and sense of place, protects environmental resources, supports economic development, promotes health and wellness, and increases quality of life.

DOG PARK 

Opened in March 2007, this off-leash park for canines of all sizes and is open everyday from dawn to dusk and is one of the city’s most popular attractions. The 7 acre park offer lots of grass and trees with a third of a mile length walking path, a wading pool for dogs, custom dog showers and fountains accessible for both the four legged friend and their owners. Stop by and enjoy our newest attraction- the agility course! Located on the west side of the park is an agility course which was designed for dogs to train or exercise along with their owners with ease. The park is divided into two parts for small and large breed dogs and has public restrooms.

HARVEST PLAZA

In the heart of downtown Historic Katy, Harvest Plaza is set aside to pay tribute to Katy’s beginnings as a rice-farming community. The beautifully landscaped plaza offers a shade structure with night lighting, benches, a water feature and commemorative brick paving, and a large greenspace for recreation or relaxation.

KATY CITY PARK

This sports facility is home to lighted baseball fields, softball fields, and a soccer/multipurpose field, a covered three-court basketball pavilion, six ADA accessible tennis courts, and picnic tables for year-round use. All athletic fields are available for rentals Monday through Sunday 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.

KATY PLAY STATION & PAVILION

The state’s largest innovative playground for multiple-impaired and profoundly deaf children, is also located within Katy City Park. The all-inclusive 13,000 square foot playground, custom designed as a tribute to Katy’s name sake the MKT Rail line. This play facility is a one-of-a-kind attraction for both able and disabled bodied children and has quickly become a destination within the community for family fun recreation. Katy Play Station was featured in Today’s Playground Magazine and has received several awards for its design and contribution to the Katy community. The Play Station Pavilion is equipped with permanent picnic tables and benches. Seats approximately 50 and is available on a daily basis for rental.

KATY ARBORETUM & PAVILION

The Katy Arboretum was developed as a joint venture with the City of Katy, CenterPoint Energy and Keep Katy Beautiful. The three-acre park was designed as an educational green space to promote CenterPoint Energy's Right Tree Right Place initiative. The Arboretum features various species of trees with educational plaques and is a popular location for families, scout groups and tourists. Inside the park area is Although the Arboretum Building is currently closed to the public, the park features a play structure, outdoor BBQ grill, patio with picnic style seating and a tranquil walking path. There are two pavilion spaces at the Arboretum. One is equipped with a barbeque put and picnic table and the other is a larger space with two tables and plenty of space for your own tables or chairs. Both pavilions can accommodate approximately 50 people total

KATY HERITAGE PARK

Established in 2003 as a joint project with the City of Katy and the Katy Heritage Society, Heritage Park is best known for its restored historic buildings, beautiful landscaping, the Tradition Bank bandstand gazebo and brick paved patio. MKT RAILROAD DEPOT & PARK

This historic train station with life-sized exhibits and a quaint, red caboose car on-display provides an eye-catching landmark for historic downtown Katy. Currently serving as a museum and visitor center for the city, we recommend new-comers and history seekers alike to start their exploration of the city here.

MARY JO PECKHAM PARK

A Harris County park for children with physical impairments, the entire facility is handicap accessible. Amenities include a playground for all children, indoor pool, fitness classes, miniature golf, picnic tables, large covered pavilion, gazebo, lake with a fishing pier, and a lighted and paved jogging trail. For more information and reservations, contact Harris County Precinct Four’s Parks Administration Office at 281-496-2177.

THOMAS PARK

A small, historic facility located at the edge of Historic Downtown Katy, Thomas Park is the location of the tri-county marker where the borders of Harris, Waller and Fort Bend Counties intersect. Thomas Park attracts visitors to its tranquil environment, paved walking path, benches, playground and gazebo. Thomas Park is a popular location for photographers, small weddings and family gatherings and the gazebo is available for rental. 

​

TOWN PARK

The large, open green space at this park provides a beautiful walking scape along the 2/3 mile trail.

​

VFW PARK 

Centrally located within the City of Katy, this wooded park offers an exciting children’s playground, with a large pyramid rope climber, two picnic pavilions with tables, a walking path and public restrooms. This park is the location for the bi-annual Community Campouts and Katy Summer Nights. VFW Park's large outdoor pavilion (30′ x 60′) is equipped with permanent concrete tables and benches. Seats approximately 96 with nearby restroom access. The smaller pavilion seats about 25 and has space for additional table or chair set-up. Both may be rented out.

WOODSLAND PARK & COMMUNITY CENTER

True to its name, Woodsland Park is a heavily wooded 7-acre park with amenities that cater to individuals and groups looking for a park with a more secluded atmosphere. The park features a covered basketball pavilion, picnic tables, playground, an outdoor pavilion with large barbecue pit and a community building. The outdoor pavilion can accommodate up to 50 people and is equipped with picnic tables, a large barbeque pit and may be rented out

​

The Community Center is 1,333 square feet (31′ x 43′) and is great for weddings, parties or other related events at a maximum occupancy of 100. It is equipped with a full kitchen, indoor restrooms, tables and chairs.
